Bonnie's Column: The many forms of
Senior Theatre

We've been talking for years about the many ways to use Senior Theatre. Indeed, the wide variety of forms make the field so very dynamic. This month we feature the older actors who perform as Santa and Mrs. Santa. It's not an easy gig. There are many challenges and demands. Just like in Sad Sack Santa, the struggles can transform into a positive experience. Santas who share so much joy with kids of all ages are rewarded a thousand fold.

We encourage you to think of ways to apply your Senior Theatre work beyond the stage. Perhaps become a voice actor or consider Acting in Films and Commercials. Use your skills, bring in some extra cash, and have a lot of fun!

Your theatrical work has a life beyond the stage. Think creatively about how your unique skills can be expanded! Let us know your ideas.

Yours in Theatre,

Bonnie Vorenberg, ArtAge President

Chuck Gill's Santa
Use Senior Theatre as Santa

WAIT! BUT...HE’S NOT SANTA! Chuck Gill just portrays that Jolly Old Elf for about 30 days every year! He's a sixty five year-old voice and stage actor, director, teaching artist, and Yes, Virginia…a professional, ‘real beard’ Santa Claus.
Chuck’s journey to Santa started when he was a senior in high school. He was ordered by his mother, a linen and towel buyer for a local Allied department store, to play Santa. He was already well entrenched into acting and was planning to become a Theatre major in college. He developed a Santa character, jumped into the gig, and loved it!
Chuck’s successful theatre career took him from actor and singer to director and producer to company owner. Along the way, like an old comfortable friend, Santa presented himself at various times. Chuck embraced him, at first dabbling with the character and then grabbing a hold of the role. Chuck says, “We all have a story to tell, we all have an ability to perform, it’s just a matter of making up your mind and trying on the red suit. You'll be amazed how well it fits.”
