Bonnie's column: The joy and value of Senior Theatre classes

Hot off the press!

Hot off the press!

As many of you know, I am a big believer in classes. They help novice actors gain basic skills while accomplished actors refresh theirs as the group blends into a cohesive unit. In classes you can try out new plays so you'll know what you want to use in your next production. Most of all, they are great fun, filled with lots of laughter!

To help you create, promote, and conduct classes, here is our newest document, Teaching Senior Theatre Classes. You'll find:

• The Basics of Teaching Senior Theatre Classes
• Organizing Senior Theatre Classes
• Senior Theatre Class Topics
• Techniques for Teaching Senior Theatre
• Teaching Readers Theatre
• Readers Theatre 8-week Lesson Plan
• Lesson Plans for Senior Theatre Course
• Senior Theatre Course Outline
• Resources

Some of my best times have been spent teaching theatre to older students. I hope you discover, as I have, that it is one of the most creative, stimulating, and enjoyable things you’ve ever done!

Yours in theatre,

Bonnie Vorenberg, ArtAge President

A Bag Full of Miracles

A Bag Full of Miracles

Oh, what a pleasure it is to perform musicals. With a great story, strong characters, and touching tunes, they create very special productions. Our musicals are easy to perform, with tunes that work for older voices.

They can be performed a complex as you wish--simply without scenery and only costume pieces, as readers theatre, or even script-in-hand. Sometimes Senior Centers have had their chorus do the singing and the theatre group does the acting. Musicals are adaptable and user friendly.

Click on links below to listen to the music, read a synopsis, and learn more. Feel free to call or contact us for more information.

The Silver Foxes

The Silver Foxes

It was 1992 when The Silver Foxes were founded for the purpose of producing one act plays in which seniors could use their talents. Now entering their 25th year of playing to sold out audiences throughout southwest Florida, they are an integral piece of Venice Theatre's community outreach efforts as well as a key source of entertainment for hundreds of communities and organizations throughout Sarasota County. Also, each March they premiere a full-scale production at their home base of Venice Theatre.

They are directed by award-winning director and choreographer, Brad Wages. Ranging in age from 59-89, The Silver Foxes bring their acting, singing, and tap dancing talents to life throughout the season proving creative aging is alive and well! Happy 25th Anniversary, Silver Foxes!
