Bonnie's Column: Keep Your Focus
It seems like there is so much noise in the world right now that
it's hard for me to keep my focus. I start to work and find my mind
drifting off to the next crisis or trouble. I've had to use a bit
of discipline:
- I make a good list that I refer to frequently
during the day
- I take breaks to keep my mind focused and
my body relaxed
- I breathe deeply to avoid returning to
Facebook, yet again!...
- then I get back to work!
If this lack of focus is happening to me, maybe it's
happening to you, too. Perhaps it's even affecting the actors we
work with. If that is the case, it's even more important that our
classes and rehearsals move along at a nice pace and that they're
well planned so participants stay focused with no time to let their
minds wander.
To keep audiences focused, select plays that are upbeat and
positive. Fortunately, we have many of them! In these chaotic
times, we think lighthearted plays about animals can offer
some great escape. Of course, there's nothing better than improv and creative drama to keep
actors in the moment and on their toes.
One of the main benefits of participating in theatre is that it
takes your mind out of reality and into fantasy. Yesterday, a
customer told me, "Theatre rehearsals and performances are the
only times when I can get out of myself and don't have any
worries."
Now's a good time to explore fantasy and avoid reality for a
moment. Keep going!

Our shows are being performed
The cast of Tina Latigo
Rides to the Rescue
This Fall, there have been so many performances of
our plays that it was hard to select just a few of them. Take a
look at:
- Tina Latigo Rides to the Rescue was performed in Oklahoma. The director
says, Our
performance had so much audience participation from sound
effects to whooping, hollering, and singing. It was an
incredibly fun night--everyone really got into the act!
- Mother's Day was performed in Hitchin, England at a
retirement care home. Click here to read the article
about their performance.
- Anna's Brooklyn Promise was performed in North Carolina. The
actors really loved the script and the show was well received.
- House of Tomorrow was performed in Australia. They
selected 13 of the scenes and three of the songs. It was very
popular with both the actors and the audience.
- Jack
Benny's Not 39 Any More was
presented in North Carolina. The director said, This play was a total
hit with our audiences. They laughed so much and were touched
in many ways. I was lucky to have a wonderful cast who enjoyed
it as much as I did. I have either acted in or directed over
30 plays and this is the first one that my wife sat through 3
times--that says something! Thanks for such a super play! The
first week, the show had solid attendance; the second week it
was sold out!
Plays from the Park Bench series were performed
in Colorado to rave reviews from audience members, including Waiting for 7. It's
such a fun show!
Your images and stories can inspire more Senior Theatre so please
send in photos and quotes so we can share them with others.
