Bonnie's Column
Summertime is a chance for me to take a break and reflect on my
rewards. I think about them in the garden where I look around and
see the fruits of all those hours spent doing hard physical work.
The flowers, scents, and sounds soothe my soul. I reflect on how
lucky I am to have a valuable career supported by family, friends,
colleagues, playwrights, and the customers who we spend time with
daily.
Here at ArtAge, we don't just want to sell plays, we want them to
be performed. So my reward comes from knowing that our plays are
produced and audiences are entertained. We looked at the numbers. In the past year there
were 714 performances of our shows.
- If we estimate that there were 6 cast
members in every show, 4284
seniors performed our plays and musicals.
- If 50 people attended each show, our plays
reached 35,700
audience members.
Wow! I think about the many people who are impacted
by my work...and am richly rewarded. When I sit in the garden, I
give thanks to everyone who helps make this happen!
Yours in Theatre,
Bonnie Vorenberg, ArtAge President

Theatre company wins award
The Maryland Association of Senior Centers gave an
Honorable Mention Award to the Garvey Senior Activity Center's
Readers Theatre for their work in Expressive & Creative Arts.
“We’re delighted,” said theatre director, Linda Lagle. The company
rehearses twice a month for performances at the Center and at local
retirement communities. Senior Center Operations Division Manager,
Alice Allen said, “I love the concept of Readers Theatre. It’s a
wonderful way to do theatre without the stress of having to
memorize lines. And the shows are hilarious.” Congratulations!
The group's most recent performance included:

Short shows create strong productions
Photo from a performance of At The Diner with Dad
When directors blend several short shows together to
create wildly successful productions, we love to share the slates
with you. This one was very popular in Arizona this summer!
At the Diner with Dad
10 minute comedy with 1 man, 2 women
Award Winner! Dad battles to have his daughter hear him, and now he
finds a way to get her attention!
Joggin' Along
5 sketches, each 2 minutes long with 2 women
Dressed in exercise gear, the women jog to center stage, where
they stop to talk about what’s going on in their lives. Hilarious!
It's Hell Gettin' Old
7-8 minute comedy with 3 men
Three old codgers sit in the park and soak up the sun
while they reminiscence about the past and their youth.
All I want is the Recipe
10 minute comedy with 2 women
The caller only wants to find out how to make
a casserole. Instead she finds herself embroiled in a
conversation that takes off in all directions.
Witch One
10 minute comedy with 2 women
Life is always about the unintended consequences, even if you are a
witch!
Gin &
Tonic
10 minute comedy with 1 man, 1 woman
This ‘never-fail’ show offers a fresh look at the problems of
senior dating with mistaken ideas that become increasingly
hilarious.
Here's
another winning production. This one was produced in Illinois!
Mike 'Hard As' Nails
A series of three short, humorous plays to perform singly or
together! They all star a private eye and his cronies, similar to
the hard-boiled private investigator dramas of the 1950s.
Double Date
16 minutes with 1 man, 2 women
Two women show up at the same time for a first date when a little
mistake becomes a big mess!
New Car Shopping--Women's Version

most ridiculous cars to sell!
For...Press or Say
12 minute comedy with 1 man, 2 women
Automatic phone services can be a pain, so how do you bypass those
annoying menus to speak with a real person.
The Complaint Department
10 minute comedy with 1 man, 2 women, or 3 either
When a man returns to the department store upset about the
thermometer he bought on Black Friday, confusion abounds!
