Since 1992, The Autumn Players has served as the community outreach of Asheville Community Theatre which has been operating since 1946 in downtown Asheville, North Carolina, a vibrant arts community. We are a volunteer-driven company of dozens of seasoned actors, directors, writers and event organizers dedicated to taking the theatre experience into the community.

From our growing repertoire of classic and contemporary skits and plays, we have entertained thousands throughout Western North Carolina and beyond. Two or three times a week, a troupe can be found providing entertainment, enrichment and education for students, seniors and in-betweens at venues within an hour or more from Asheville. Most performances are as readers theatre.

Programming is organized into six segments:

  • bimonthly meetings -- read new material, conduct some business and socialize
  • community programs -- for adults and featuring an ‘Edutainment’ Series
  • poetry for care facilities -- selections vary monthly
  • playreading for pleasure -- meet monthly sans audience
  • Readers Theatre Showcase -- a season of full-length plays for ticketed audiences
  • school programs -- adapted classics for K-12
