Attend the 2008 Senior Theatre USA Performance Festival in Baltimore from June 10 - 15.
Like the previous festivals, the festival will bring together hundreds of performers, professionals, and other Senior Theatre lovers. There will be shows from many different types of Senior Theatre companies, plus workshops, and social events to give you plenty of time to network.
The site has three different performance venues so no matter how large or small your show, there is a place for you to present your work. If you'd prefer to discuss your company or useful techniques that might benefit others, then you should present a workshop. For performances, submit a description of the show you'd like to present; for workshops send in a summary and describe the topic you'd like to address.

Playwriting Workshop
Playwrights are invited to participate in a playwriting workshop at the Senior Theatre Festival, to be coordinated by Alan Woods of Ohio State’s Lawrence and Lee Theatre Research Institute and playwrights Stuart Harris and Susan-Sojourna Collier. Bonnie Vorenberg of ArtAge Publications will also be participating, bringing her expertise developed over years of working with senior theatre.
Playwrights will participate in the writing workshop each day of the Festival, developing new work for America’s rapidly-expanding population of theatre companies devoted to exploring issues of aging.
Playwrights are also encouraged to send scripts already completed or in progress for reading and developing during the workshop. Hard copies of scenes or complete scripts should be sent to Alan Woods at the address below – and must arrive by Monday, June 2, 2008. No email copies, please.

Background
Senior Theatre USA was conceived as a national organization in 1992 at a meeting of the ATHE Senior Theatre Focus group. Members of this group included Ann McDonough who hosted three conferences at UNLV in Las Vegas (’93, ’95 & ’97); Arne Lindquist who hosted the ’99 conference & festival in Orlando, FL; and Joy Reilly who hosted the 2002 International Conference at Ohio State University in Columbia.
At the ’99 conference, the Educational Theatre Association (EDTA), more popularly known as the Thespian Society, approached leaders of Senior Theatre USA. The board felt that merging the two organizations would solidify its newly stated mission of promoting education theatre “from cradle to grave”.
Senior Theatre League of America was eventually formed under the umbrella of EdTA as a membership organization and produced the festival in Columbus, the 2004 festival in Las Vegas and the 2006 festival hosted by Dolores Kane in St. Louis in October 2006.
New Directions
With the blessing of EDTA, STLA is now returning to the Senior Theatre USA structure to serve not as a membership organization but to focus on producing and promoting conferences and festivals for seniors.
Meanwhile, the grassroots senior theatre movement has blossomed. According to ArtAge Publications, it now boasts over 700 senior theatre companies in the United States. Senior Theatre USA would like to connect with all of you, to become your national voice and the headquarters that arranges for festivals and conferences every two years in alternating geographical locations where all can learn, network, and celebrate our talent.
Mission Statement
Senior Theatre USA is a national organization that produces festivals and conferences to encourage older adults to explore the performing arts.
