SENIOR MOMENTS Donald Fried 5 funny, touching, short plays 9-14 minute comedies, 75 minutes total
Senior Moments is made up of five short plays which can be presented singly or in groups. The play is extremely portable, requiring only one small table and four chairs. In the 13 months after its premier in January, 2010, Senior Moments was performed 22 times to rave reviews at six venues in the U.S. and Canada – at theaters, retirement homes and senior centers. It includes:
- The Code. Two seniors, Rose and Charlie, meet at a café on a blind date set up over the Internet. Charlie thinks he is meeting an attractive younger woman; so does Rose! 13 minutes.
- The Gamblers. Colonel William and Mother Angie have a chance encounter at a casino. Colonel William is strongly opposed to gambling but after an unexpected turn, he is forced to change the habits of a lifetime. 14 minutes.
- First Love. Rose and Oscar, both in their 80’s, meet to renew their interrupted romance. But a few things have changed in the intervening 60 years. 14 minutes.
- On the RAC(K). The members of the Resident’s Advisory Committee have huge troubles trying to accomplish anything at all. 13 minutes.
- Growing – Old. The sequel to The Code, Rose and Charlie meet again. Charlie is once more on the prowl for older women, but Rose has had an “unexpected dose of reality.” 9 minutes.
Senior Moments won first prize at the Front Range Playwrights Showcase and third place at the Colorado Community Theater Coalition Festival in the Best Production category.
Fried's writing is sharp, the dialogue never drags, and the show provides more than a few unexpected twists without ever turning to cheap sentiment. Boulder (Colorado) Camera
Fabulous news Senior Moments deserves a wider and wider and wider audience. The show was a rousing success. Once again, thanks so much for creating this gem. One week later now and the buzz is still floating around the town. The plays are strong and need nothing to give an audience a full evening.
