THIS RIVER IS GOLD Script, Music and Lyrics by Alvin H. Reiss Photo by Roger Bargainnier
This new two-act show is a musical tribute to older adults, celebrating their lifestyles, aspirations, and dreams. It’s a tuneful, joyous excursion into life in a senior community. When the residents think that gold has been discovered on their property, the characters show both their best and worst sides: greed, anger, love and satisfaction.
Twelve characters take audiences through the adventure using fourteen songs—some are romantic and wistful, others are humorous and boisterous. What rises above the conflict is the seniors’ spirit and love of life as reflected in Over the Hill:
We're over the hill and we're proud of it, we’ve climbed every step and we've reached the top, we’ve savored each moment that we’ve had of it, now we’ll enjoy life and we won't stop.
The author, Alvin H. ‘Skip' Reiss, is a well-known arts writer, educator, consultant, and lecturer. His humor has appeared in Esquire, New York Times, Family Health, Playbill and Diversion. Reiss has written several other musicals including Tall Paul, A Tall Tale: The Legend of Paul Banyan.
