A FEW GOOD YEARS
Penny Petersen

4 Women, 4 Men and 4-6 non-speaking Mimes
2 Acts. Approximate running time 95 minutes (not counting intermission)

A Few Good Years, by Penny Petersen, is a romantic comedy in the non-realistic style of The Fantasticks. Two middle-aged daughters fix up their reluctant, widowed parents. In an effort to help them, the daughters make a terrible mess of everything, creating a fake robbery, an actress in a clown suit, a guy’s night out bowling, and a fantasy nightmare which all add to the hilarity.

Mimes, who represent ‘fate,’ intervene to clear up the confusion. The play is a warm understanding of human nature. Best of all, love triumphs in the end.

Setting: Anywhere, anytime. Seven 6’ square painted drops, a bench, several chairs and a table represent place and furniture, sample photos are available. Can be done without a stage and although lighting cues are written in the show, it can be done without lighting.

2 hour comedy

The Ophelia L. Davis Home for Actors, Musicians and Singers is a 1920's manor in 21st century Burbank California. Its residents, who have called it home for over 40 years, all worked in film, radio, or TV.  They include two sisters, a leading man who could never remember his lines, a man of 999 faces, and a mystic who hasn't had a correct vision in years!

Their friend and former owner of the home, Ophelia Davis, died leaving the older performers in a terrible predicament. The taxes are due and if they can't be raised, the son of Ophelia's attorney, Ben, will sell the house so he can make millions when the land is used for a shopping mall.

At wits end, the performers turn to Ophelia's Granddaughter and a nephew for help. Using all their acting skills, some clever disguises, and a missing lottery ticket, they manage to turn a garage sale into a hilarious showdown. It makes for a fun filled and unexpected ending. The strong characters and plot makes this show memorable for both actors and audiences!

4 Men, 5 Women, 1 either
2 act, 90 minute comedy

If you're looking for a story that captures the heart and humor of growing older, this one is for you. In fact, it has something for everybody.

Gladys, a resident of a retirement community, dreams of celebrity in Hollywood and on Broadway, so to fulfill her fantasy, she decides to write a play. But the national contest in which she decides to enter it is a scam, conceived by a couple of bumbling crooks. She's got the talent, they tell her, and they have the promotion machine to make it work.

She is encouraged by an old actor friend who dreams of a comeback and her exercise instructor who sees this as a chance to fulfill his own show business fantasies.

In a parallel story, another resident, Mildred, dreams of reconciling with her daughter who fled an unsettled homelife. Is it possible that she will find her daughter and reconcile their differences? In Seaview, this quaint seaside community with eccentric people, anything is possible.

This two-act play has laughter, sentimental tears and a great theatre experience for everybody.

Royalty: $30 per performance

This a warm and humorous script of a 50th high school reunion. The colorful group returns to a  small Midwestern farm town along with their pasts and their futures. Against a background of Big Band music, the one act is successful as readers theatre or as a staged production. It makes for quite an evening! 3rd Place Winner, Oklahoma Community Theatre Association New Play Contest!

I’m 72 and have been dabbling in all phases of community theatre for 20 years, but this is the first time I’ve gotten goose bumps delivering lines during rehearsals and bringing teary eyes to fellow thespians.  Joan Alice Hall

“We had a wonderful show with “The Reunion at Mt. Sanguine.” People said it was our best show ever! Here’s how we did it:

The early-arriving audience members were taught the fight song; so at beginning of show did slide show, then the fight song. It went over so well.

The costumes were clothes you’d wear if you were attending a reunion. \

We have a small stage so in the restroom scene, the men were on one side and the men on the other. We added signs, “Boys” and “Girls,” to delineate the areas. Actors faced the audience, pretending to be primping in the mirror.

We used songs to cover with the slide projection screen was rising. We deleted the blackouts and just transitioned from scene to scene. It kept the play moving along smoothly. The show ran 102 minutes including a 15-minute intermission, just the perfect length!

What a great show! We loved it and the audience loved it!
