Class Act Senior Theater Company was incorporated in October 2007 in Sun River, St. George, Utah by its CEO and Artistic Director Alfie Deming.
One day, while searching the internet for scripts, he came across “Seniortheater.com” and found a gold mine of ideas and scripts. He immediately contacted Bonnie L. Vorenberg, a Senior Theater Expert and President of ArtAge’s Senior Theater Resource Center. Alfie contacted Sun River’s Board of Trustees, an agreement was reached and the Class Act Senior Theater was formed. “We started small,” says Alfie. “We didn’t have any startup capital so we used some public domain 1940’s radio scripts”.
We use Sun River’s residents in our shows as much as we can. Our shows are open to the public and are free. We get all our operating income from grants, business sponsorship, patron’s donations and our Christmas Benefit variety show. The response from the St. George community has been very gratifying.
The purpose of Class Act is to develop theatrical production experiences for the SunRiver and St. George residents in acting, directing, stage management, scenery design and costumes. We use theatre to promote increased cognitive skills and enhance mental and physical health.
We finished a successful season with a full play, action-packed, song-filled and romantic comedy, A Bag Full of Miracles. The cast consisted of twelve energetic, talented and sometimes crazy characters. After taking a break for the summer, the next season started with the famous radio shows Father Knows Best and Abbott and Costello. Each night, our audience left laughing. We don’t take ourselves too seriously, creating fun characters in fun shows.
While producing A Bag Full of Miracles, we discovered that our company has many talented actors who can also sing. So, we finished our 2010 season with the ever popular and hilarious Nunsense. We look forward to great seasons for years to come!
