Bonnie's Column: Arts and Humanities Month

Well, I'm off to Minnesota for the Senior Theatre Workshop and Conference. It's one of the first regional conferences on the topic and I'm thrilled to be a part of it. I'll let you know how it turns out.

Meanwhile, enjoy this busy Arts and Humanities Month!

Minnesota is taking the lead to promote more Senior Theatre in their area. That's why the Minnesota Creative Arts and Aging Network (MnCAAN) is presenting Acting for Life: A Senior Theatre Workshop and Conference on Oct. 8-10, 2009 in Minneapolis. The featured events are:

On Thursday, Oct. 8 there will be a Pre-Conference Social and Theatre Evening. Come and enjoy a wine and cheese reception, meet Bonnie Vorenberg, see Allan Lotsberg receive an award for his 15 years directing the New Fogey Follies, learn about MnCAAN, and attend the Midwestern premiere of King of Shadows. It will be held at the Pillsbury House Theatre, 3501 Chicago Avenue, in Minneapolis.

On Friday, October 9, Bonnie L. Vorenberg, ArtAge President, will present an afternoon workshop, Open the Curtain on Senior Theate. The interactive session will explore the many ways to use Senior Theatre both on stage and in the classroom, plus hints and techniques and so much more in three action-packed hours. It will be held in the Guthrie Theater in Minneapolis.

On Saturday, October 10, The Acting For Life conference begins with Bonnie's keynote, Find Fun, Fame & Fortune on Stage. It will be followed by a showcase of several Senior Theatre performances. After lunch, breakout sessions will cover topics like storytelling, working with frail elders, writing your script, how to start a program, improvisation, and radio theatre. It will be held in the Bloomington Civic Plaza.

The ArtAge collection of Senior Theatre plays, books, and how-to materials will be available on both days to purchase.

All of this information and inspiration is sure to encourage more Senior Theatre. It's going to be a great event. We hope you can join us!

Skits for Seniors: Holiday Plays

Skits for Seniors: Holiday Plays

We're heading into the holiday season, when family and friends love to have a reason to get together. Performances, songs and movement are a great way to get people into the holiday spirit. Here are a few of our new holiday additions for this year:

Add in a bit of mystery with the Merry Christmas Caper or inject some laughs with Frank's 75th Christmas, or how about a retelling of Scrooge with a Twist - a format combining carols, a Greek chorus and the usual 'Scrooge' characters. Turn to page 14 in our new catalog, or visit the holiday plays section on the Web site to browse through our available scripts - which are designed to be fun, easy and successful. Be sure to schedule enough rehearsal time!
